The focus of my practice lies within creating understated, beautiful furniture for the domestic market, mainly concentrating on detailing and proportion. I believe understatement is key to successful design and most importantly achieving longevity.

Inspired by bamboo's flexibility, strength and availability; 'Thirteen Chair' introduces bamboo as a viable, non-radical and readily available material in furniture manufacture. The frame is CNC cut beech, a traditionally common material used in furniture making, while the seat and back are laminated bamboo slats; a not so commonly used material. The project stated as an investigation into the use of bamboo within contemporary furniture manufacture; I realised that most applications ended with quite a radical resolution and not fitting for mass manufacture. Combining bamboo with a more common material and using modern technologies this is achieved.
